Sun and Concrete (Sonne und Beton) is set in Berlin's Neukölln district during the hot summer of 2003. The story follows four teenage friends:

Each of them comes from a difficult background marked by poverty, family problems, violence, and a lack of opportunities. Lukas lives with his father after his mother's death. Gino suffers abuse from his alcoholic father. Julius lives with his older brother, who struggles with addiction, while Sanchez is raised by his hardworking single mother.
The Beginning
The friends try to buy a small amount of marijuana, but they become caught in a conflict between rival drug dealers. After the police arrive, one dealer blames Lukas for losing money and demands €500, threatening him if he does not pay.

Desperate to get the money, Sanchez comes up with a plan to steal the school's new computers and sell them.
